Questions

Answers to common questions

How do I choose a tree removal provider?

Ask for a quote in writing. It should list the work, the cleanup and the price. Ask if the provider carries liability insurance and workers' compensation, and ask for proof. Compare at least two quotes. Be careful with anyone who pushes you to decide on the spot. Spanishscale Tree Service is a referral service, so the provider you pick does the work.

When should I remove a tree instead of waiting?

Look up early. Dead branches, leaning trunks, deep cracks, mushrooms at the base and heaved soil are warning signs. Small signs, small jobs. Waiting can turn a simple removal into an emergency. Long wet seasons soften soil and add weight to limbs, so a worried tree deserves a look before the next windstorm.

Can I remove a tree myself?

Small saplings, yes. Anything tall, leaning or near a roof, wires or fence, no. Falling trees are unpredictable, and chainsaw and ladder injuries are common. Dropped limbs can crush a wood-frame home or crawl space vent. A licensed, insured provider has the gear and training. Hiring one costs less than a bad accident or a roof repair.

How much does tree removal usually cost?

Typical U.S. prices run from a few hundred dollars for a small tree to several thousand for a large or tricky one. Height, location, access and cleanup all change the price. Trees near homes or power lines cost more. Get a written quote before any work starts, and compare more than one.

Is stump grinding included in tree removal?

Not always. Many quotes cover cutting and hauling only. Ask whether stump grinding is listed as a separate line. Grinding a stump early also helps stop rot, pests and regrowth in damp climates. Put the answer in your written quote.

What should I do if a tree falls or a large limb breaks?

Stay away from it and from any wires. If a line is down, keep clear and contact your utility. If the tree is on your house or blocking a driveway, request an estimate or Request a callback to check provider availability. Many providers can respond quickly to storm tree clearance. Take photos before anything is moved.

Will my homeowners insurance cover tree removal?

Maybe. Some policies may cover sudden damage, like a tree falling on your house during a storm. Removal of a healthy or dead tree that has not hit anything is often not covered. Check your policy and ask your insurer. Providers can often help document damage for a claim, such as with photos and a written scope.

What happens after I request an estimate?

You send details about the tree and the problem. Spanishscale Tree Service passes your request to a provider in our network that serves the Vancouver area. The provider contacts you to talk about the job and may set a time to look at the tree. You compare the quote and choose. There is no obligation to hire.
